Glitch forces Houston into Sledtown Championship tie

After 3 months of voting, Houston will share the title of Canada’s best snowmobiling town.

SnoRiders’ “SledTown ShowDown” competition seeking Canada’s best snowmobiling spot has ended in a draw between Houston and Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

In the National final, publisher Keith Powell says there was a system failure that locked out voters and created unusual activity, which deemed the tally inaccurate.

“We couldn’t account for what was going on.”

In a move that he says “showed some integrity to both sides,” SnoRiders declared the title a tie.

“Both of these communities have just put so much effort into this and showed such community spirit that we just thought it was fair that we offer both of them the trophy.”

Houston Chamber manager Maureen Czirfusz was disappointed that the District wouldn’t be named the best but is looking at the silver lining.

“Maybe we don’t have the complete title but it has definitely brought attention to our snowmobiling area and I think it’s good for the whole valley,” she says.

Houston Snowmobile Club member Les Auston also says the news hard to hear, but the club is still happy in sharing the win.

“It was a lot of work put into it from a lot of different people,” he says.

SnoRiders will give both locations a trophy, a featured article, and promotions.

In celebration, the Houston Snowmobile Club is holding a barbecue at Dungate Meadows on January 16th. All snowmobilers are invited.
