The Smithers Chamber of Commerce recently released their findings from their Business walk in October.
Volunteers visited 100 local shops in Smithers and Telkwa to find out what it’s like to do business in the area.
Most of the results were positive, but many businesses stressed the importance of shopping locally.
Chamber Manager Heather Gallagher plans to help educate the residents on this topic.
“If [local] kids are involved in minor hockey, or basketball, or drama, or concerts and bands, the people that support them are local business people who provide sponsorship to their fundraising efforts and support them,” she says.
The chamber held a poll of what businesses like about working in the area. “Location” and “clientele” ranked the highest.
