Steelheads win in Kitimat, 2 more for home ice in playoffs

A 7-2 win in Kitimat on Saturday keeps the Smithers Steelheads in contention for a first placed finish.

Both Randall Groot and Brendan DeVries potted two goals in the victory. DeVries added an assist for a game-high 3 points. Rookie Wyatt Vanderheyden also scored his first goal of the season.

The team will now focus on hosting Prince Rupert twice next weekend.

Coach Tom DeVries knows they won’t be easy games.

“Prince Rupert has won their last two games against Kitimat and Terrace and we had a tough game against them a few weeks back. I’m sure they’re going into town to give it to us but we’re ready,” he says.

Should the Steelheads win both, they’ll head into the playoffs as the league’s top seed.
