An environmentally-friendly highway could be created in the area.
Smithers Council heard a presentation of a proposed Smithers-to-Telkwa bike path on Tuesday night.
The trail would be a safe alternative than biking on the highway.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says he’s excited about the projects potential.
“It’s something that a lot of people in the community have been talking about for a long time so I’m really excited to hear Council’s discussion,” he says, “and to hear from the community if this is something they see in the long term would improve the quality of life in the Bulkley Valley.”
Organisers are looking for support from all levels of government during these early steps.
While Telkwa Council has already supported it, Smithers will make a decision at its next meeting on January 26th.
