Smithers Council talks ways to increase bus ridership

Increased ridership and bus services between Smithers and Telkwa continues to be a hot topic.

Council agreed last night to send the Transportation Minister and BC Transit a letter to begin a conversation about increasing ridership.

Service can run up to 5 times a day, but Mayor Taylor Bachrach says there can still be improvements to meet commuter demands.

“In my mind, what we need to do is understand the needs of the public and then tailor the service to meet those needs,” he says.

Telkwa Mayor Darcy Repen has also been gathering information.

He’s been going door-to-door asking commuters about their experiences.
