An unlikely call to the Smithers Fire Department resulted in an impromptu rescue yesterday.
Fire chief, Keith Stecko says crews received a call yesterday morning that a little boy was stuck alone in the elevator at Smithers Plaza.
“I think he was just on the second floor…and he wanted to take a ride down. So he did but unfortunately the elevator for whatever reason got stuck on the first floor and the door wouldn’t open.”
He says the boy was only trapped for about 15 minutes before crews were able to get the doors open and reunite him with his mother.
Stecko says the four or five-year-old boy remained calm and in good spirits during what would have been a nightmare for many adults.
