Huckleberry takes awards home from rescue competition

The Huckleberry Mine Rescue Team has walked away with awards from the Smithers Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition.

Team coach and Huckleberry safety coordinator, Dwayne Allen says the team won best Three Person First Aid Team, Best Overall First Aid and the rope task competition at the zone competition and moved onto the finals on Saturday.

There the team won Best Three Person First Aid team for the third year in a row and Best First Aid Captain.

“Huckleberry has an excellent rescue crew and some of the best first aiders in the province.”

He says due to a shut down of some operations at the mine, the Huckleberry Team only had a few days to practice before heading to this year’s competition.
