Cuba nominated for JUNO

Alex Cuba’s latest album has received another nomination.

His 2015 release “Healer” is a finalist for the “World Music Album Of The Year” award at this year’s JUNOs. Cuba has won this award twice already, once in 2006 and again in 2008. He’s also been recognized at the JUNO’s for each of his five albums

This nomination isn’t the only recognition the album has received. Cuba got a Latin GRAMMY for “Best Singer-Songwriter Album” in November and has been nominated for “Best Latin Pop Album” at the upcoming GRAMMYs.

He says all the attention has helped him on his recent tour.

“People know what they’re going to see when they come out to my shows. That is, for me, who is very close to culture and language and all of that is very important to me. It’s a dream come true to know that people are buying tickets because they want to,” he says.

Cuba says “Healer” has done more than he ever imagined.

“This album surpassed all of my expectations. It keeps surprising me every day so I’m very excited about that.”

After such a successful couple of months, Cuba was very direct when asked what else is left for him to do.

“I’m going to run for mayor of Smithers, BC,” he says, “I’m just kidding. I don’t want Taylor to freak out.”

The JUNO Awards will be April 3rd in Calgary.
