Smithers RCMP responded to 58 calls in 4 days the week, between January 30th – February 3rd.
One of them was a stranded skier in the backcountry.
On January 30th, just after 5pm, police received a report of a skier stranded in bad weather in a high risk avalanche area near Miller Creek on Hudson Bay Mountain.
The experienced skier had contacted Search and rescue via Sat phone.
Search and Rescue was activated and ensured the skier made it back to safety. There were no injuries.
The next day police received a report of a drunk man on a snowmobile in Moricetown. RCMP want to remind the public operating off road vehicles while impaired carries the same penalty as conventional drunk driving.
Smithers RCMP are also asking the public for help tracking down a vandal who struck on Wednesday, February 3rd.
Just before 10 am, police received reports of several BC Hydro insulators being shot on the Lawson Forest Service Road in Telkwa.
Damage is extensive and will require a short term power outage to repair.
