West Fraser Mills is hoping the area near Monkton and Gardiner will be changed from “Rural” to “Heavy Industrial,” which has some residents concerned.

Councillor and Deputy Mayor Gladys Atrill says Council heard representatives from both sides.

“The proponent is looking for opportunities, they own some property adjacent to the Mill and they’re looking for things they might be able to do in the future,” she says, “Residents were concerned about potential increased noise, more visibilty for increased industrial activities, and concern over a loss of rural land.”

No final decision was made and Council will revisit this topic at its next meeting.
