Councils collaborate to strengthen Northern communities

Municipal relationships were strengthened this week when three Councils met.

Hazelton, New Hazelton, and Smithers spent Wednesday getting to know each other and discussing each communities upsides and struggles.

Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach says this could be the start of something special.

“Down the road, looking at opportunities to collaborate together, whether it’s for transportation or on recreation opportunities, there’s a huge number of things we can do together to ensure that our communities remain vibrant,” he says.

Despite the communities being connected socially, culturally, and economically, Bachrach noted this is the first time councils have ever sat down together.

He also said small towns need to work together in this global economy.
