Road Dust Advisory spread to Houston, Smithers; con’t in BL

The Road Dust Advisory is ongoing in Burns Lake while the Ministry of Environment issued ones in Houston and Smithers Tuesday.

The Ministry and North Health are reporting high concentrations of coarse particulate and winter traction material on the streets. These are expected to linger until they’re swept up or washed away by rain.

People with serious medical conditions are advised not to do any strenuous activities outside, near busy roads and industrial operations. The Ministry advises running an air filter in your home.

The provincial air quality objective for this particulate is 50 micrograms per cubic metre (μg/m3) averaged over 24 hours. As of 8 AM Tuesday, Burns Lake levels were 120 μg/m3 (up from 59 μg/m3 at 9 AM on Monday). At the same time Tuesday, Houston’s was 64 μg/m3 and Smithers was 55 μg/m3.
