SSS student shot with BB gun in drive-by, 16-year-old arrested

Around 2:20 PM on February 16th, three Smithers Secondary students were shot at in a drive-by while walking through the KFC parking lot near Highway 16 and Toronto. Later, these same students were shot at near the A&W at Glacier Street and Business Fronting North.

There were no serious injuries but one student was hit in the knee.

Police found the suspect white Dodge van and arrested a 16-year-old student.

The young man won’t face Assault with a Weapon charges. The issue will now be resolved through restorative justice and a healing circle.

Police are looking into a third incident near the Rec Centre / BV Pool parking lot where another two students were shot in the hands.

RCMP also arrested three men on February 19th for a similar incident. After a “High risk takedown,” RCMP found three AirSoft BB guns in the vehicle and the men (aged 37, 27, and 27) were released without charges. There are no reports of anyone being shot from this incident.
