RCMP celebrate DARE grad

Smithers RCMP and the Smithers prevention and community safety officer were at St. Josephs Elementary this morning for the DARE program graduation.

Prevention and Community Safety Officer, Matt Davey says the grade five and six students were celebrating the completion of a nine week DARE program aimed at making good choices when faced with drugs and alcohol.

“It covers drug facts, responsible decision making and using the DARE decision making model. We do spend some time talking about bullying, peer pressure, how to speak confidently and how to stand up for themselves. All the skills they are going to need as they get into their teenage years.”

The kids read essays they wrote on what they learned in the program, participated in mock arrests and ate cake with the Smithers RCMP.

The officers will be at Bulkley Valley Christian School tomorrow for another Dare graduation.
