Art Gallery back on stable ground

The Smithers Art Gallery is back on its feet after recent financial worries.

Facing some possible exhibition and staff cuts, Gallery members told Council it needed $32,000 to operate this year. This was more than double what the Town had given in 2015.

Council gave the Town the needed funding. The Gallery was also given $6,000 through a recent gaming grant.

Gallery Manager Caroline Bastable says things are really looking good at the library again.

“We’ve gone from a position where we were going to have to cut programs to now, actually, we can carry on with all of the plans that we had for programming for the year and for the exhibitions for the year. Everything can actually go ahead like we initially planned,’ she says.

The funding doesn’t cover all funding expenses. There will still be fundraiser throughout the year.
