Oliemans 23rd at World Junior Ski Cross

A Smithers skier wrapped up his time at the FIS Ski Cross Junior World Championships.

Jason Oliemans squeaked through qualifications Thursday morning, finishing in 30th. Only the top 32 skiers advanced.

Oliemans was eliminated from the competition after his first heat, finishing third of four racers.

Overall, he finished 23rd of 55 athletes. He says he was happy to ski for the country and Northern BC.

“It’s been super great to have the opportunity to come here and to be skiing with people from all over the world,” he says, “as well, as to be one of the four Canadian guys that gets to be here representing the country and be able to go out there and ski well and get a pretty good result.”

Oliemans won’t have too much time to rest. He has French National qualifying on Friday, followed by heats on Saturday.

The photo of the four Canadian skiers was taken from the FIS Freestyle Skiing facebook page. Oliemans is the skier is on the far right.
