Telus’ $1M betters wireless service along Hwy 16 and Telkwa

Wireless service in Telkwa is about to improve.

TELUS announced Tuesday it’s putting $1 million into building a better wireless site along a 13-kilometre stretch of Highway 16, which runs right through Telkwa.

Mayor Darcy Repen says this means a lot for current and future Villagers and businesses alike.

“It’s great news when you hear investment announcements like this because it’s just going to create that opportunity for us to host new businesses and residents that really need that,” he says.

TELUS General Manager for Northern British Columbia Lance MacDonald says this is also vital to the safety of those driving through.

“TELUS’ investment in this site will ensure travelers and residents can make calls along this stretch of highway, and, critically, reach 911 in the event of an emergency,” he says.

This is a part of a 10-year deal between TELUS and the Province to bring wireless service to more than 1700 km of unconnected BC highways.
