Jason Oliemans made it back safe and sound from his ski cross competitions in France.
He qualified for heats at the French Nationals but a crash in his first race ended his weekend.
“I knew I had to take a bit of a risk in order to catch them and hopefully make it passed them. I went for it and it didn’t pay off. I hit an unexpected hole on the course, lost my balance and went ‘over the handlebars.'”
Crashing wasn’t ideal, but he says he’s happy with the risk he took.
“If I wouldn’t have tried doing what I did I would’ve always been wondering maybe I could’ve gotten past them and I would’ve been knocked out at that point anyways.”
He finished in 28th of 52 racers at the French Nationals and says he learned a lot from the experience.
He also ended up in 23rd at the Junior World Ski Cross Championships just a few days earlier.
Oliemans hopes to spend time training with the National team at the end of April.
