Missing Smithers mother spotted in Quesnel, possibly Vernon

A Smithers mother still has not been heard from since going missing on Wednesday.

Jennifer Derbyshire dropped her kids off at school around 8 AM and didn’t show up for work later that day. She was driving the family’s blue Dodge Caravan with the license plate “418 KRH.”

However, Corporal Dave Tyreman with the North District RCMP says they have been able to confirm a sighting of her at a Walmart in Quesnel.

“There was nobody with her, she didn’t look like she was under any duress, so it’s unexplainable to us why she’s in Quesnel. We had another sighting this morning around 6:40 in the morning in Vernon, we are still investigating that one to see if it’s confirmed.”

Tyreman says there may be surveillance cameras in the area that will be able to provide them with confirmation.

“I know that there was information on social media that she may have been heading to Alberta, but it doesn’t appear that way.” Tyreman said “So from a police standpoint, we are just trying to get in touch with Jennifer to make sure she’s OK. If there’s any services we can offer her and just put the family’s mind at ease about her whereabouts.”

RCMP add that this is completely out of character for Jennifer and that she left home without her cell phone or any personal belongings.

Anyone with information on Jennifer’s whereabouts is asked to contact the RCMP.
