There are three fires in rural areas near Southside, south of Burns Lake.
The causes aren’t confirmed but Northwest Fire Centre spokesperson Olivia Pojar suspects it’s today’s high winds.
“The area’s fire danger rating was actually low because of the precipitation over the weekend but the wind is what seems to be causing the fires it is supposed to be windy today but, by tonight, the wind is supposed to calm down.”
The wind may have blown trees onto power lines and sparked the blazes.
At about 2:30 PM, the Centre didn’t know the size of the fires but didn’t think they were very big. Pojar says the biggest one is in a cut block area.
No injuries or damages had been reported at that time.
