Hikisch takes first in category at Vancouver Marathon

A local athlete had a very impressive finish at the 45th Vancouver Marathon on Sunday.

In his Bulkley Valley Athletics jersey, Cormac Hikisch of Smithers ran all 42.2 km, clocking in at 2:48:06. That time was good enough for first place among runners in the men’s 40-44-year-old category.

Among the 3872 runners, he was also the 14th fastest man and the 18th fastest person.

He shares what was going through his mind as he ended the race.

“It just felt great to hit that finish line and stop running because that’s far enough. A marathon is far enough,” he says.

He has some inspiring words for everyone working towards a goal.

“You can accomplish anything if you set a goal and break it down into small, bite-size chunks. It’s amazing what we can accomplish one day at a time.”

That being said, he will be in the Babine Mountain half Marathon in August.
