First Nations emergency crews in Smithers for training

Smithers is hosting the First Nations Emergency Services Society safety expo.

Manager, Bill Gowans explains FNESS,

“We help the communities develop their training for fire departments plus the prevention side of things as well. the emergency department does preparedness for natural disasters; forest fires, earthquakes, tsunamis and puts them through the exercises to manage that.”

Gowans says this is the 30th anniversary for FNESS and crews have come from all over B.C. to participate in training, workshops, the annual general meeting and safety competitions.

He says the public is welcome to watch the training competitions on Saturday morning behind A&W.
