Unemployment rate up from provincial

The unemployment rate is up to 7.8 per cent from 6.1 a year ago in the North Coast and Necheko regions, sitting slightly above the provincial rate of 6.5.

That’s a loss of just over 2 thousand jobs explains Statistics Canada Analyst Vincent Ferrao.

“Maybe the jobs are there but they’re not filled, that’s a possibility. Or it could be there are less jobs.”

Most of the losses were in manufacturing, forestry, fishing, mining and gas industries. And some jobs were gained in the retail sector.
