The Province has announced this week tougher penalties for those that drive through the stop sign of a stopped school bus. That’s a wopping $368 fine, up from $168.
And to keep kids safe in the 54 School District, dash cams are being put in busses to deal with vehicles blowing past the flashing lights of a bus.
“We often get traffic running our lights on Highway 16,” says Cathy whalen, the Supervisor of Transportation for School District 54.
She says the whole idea is to get a a shot of the licence plate when someone goes through those flashing lights.
“I’ll be putting cameras in more than one(bus). We’ve tried other cameras on the outside of the bus and with snow and sleet they often get covered up and we can’t get a licence plate.”
