New Rules For Playgrounds put fixing Dogwood Park in Smithers Above the $30,000 Mark

The town found that the new rules for playgrounds will put costs for fixing Dogwood Park above the 30 thousand dollar mark.

A young student previously made a presentation to council for upgrades at the park where some vandalism occurred.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says it’s down to regulations.

“Pretty disappointing for everyone involved. We really hoped to make something cool happen at Dogwood Park. But, it looks like we’re not going to be able to. The playground there is non-conforming, so it doesn’t look like it will meet the existing standards,” says Bachrach.

The town found that the playground area isn’t large enough to allow space for new equipment. New regulations have encroachment and clearance zones, and won’t allow playground equipment to be built too close together.
