The district of Houston will be facing an infrastructure deficit reaching into the high millions in the coming decades.
Last week a town hall meeting was held with Local MP Nathan Cullen to collect public input for Ottawa.
Councillor Jonathon Van Barneveld was there.
“Certainly when we have money available for infrastructure we’re constantly trying to put those dollars towards those projects(infrastructure) to try and alleviate those deficits,” says Councillor Van Barneveld.
Healthcare, Beautification in the downtown area and the construction of a new water tower this year were some of the initiatives the community brought forward.
MP Nathan Cullen, who was at the town hall meeting, wants any projects done for Houston to be “guided based on local knowledge rather than Ottawa telling us what we need.”
Cullen says he’ll be pushing “for better biking, bridges, better bridges over rail grades…better cell phone reception and internet.”
