The Stewart-Nechako Regional Health District board had to sneak an extra 130 thousand dollars into the 2016 budget this year for a post-anaesthetic recovery patient monitoring system for a 40 per cent share of the system.
Board director Bill Miller explains that the money was supposed to be in the budget but was almost missed.
“Northern Health had actually sent us a note asking us to add it to the 2016 budget because it was starting to fail. There were concerns if it would last until 2019,” says Miller.
He says the budget amendment won’t affect the tax base and will come out of capital reserves.
“we’re just taking more out of capital reserves than we had planned.”
The hospital board found that the savings on inflation from now until 2019 will make up for the losses in interest on that money.
