MLA Doug Donaldson says small businesses should get a larger chunk of natural resources

Small businesses make up an estimated 30 per cent of the BC GDP, and MLA doug Donaldson says policy should be geared towards them.

“The provincial government spends 4 billion anually for government office. I suggested to the finance minister that a portion of that should be directed towards purchacing goods and services from local business,” says Donaldson.

Workshops will be held this week in Smithers and Hazelton with Donaldson and renowned economist Michael Schuman speaking about local businesses in the economy.

Donaldson also wants to connect small business with the mineral industry, pushing for locally owned businesses to get thier hands on those resources over the bigger companies.

“If we could get the locally owned bisinesses those resource contracts, then it’s 10 fold for the local economy.”
