A Worksafe BC inspection report shows failures to comply with the workers compensation act in relation to an explosion and fire at the Newpro plant in Smithers on May 21
It says the employer began cleaning up the affected area from the fire before immediately notifying the Workers Compensation Board
The report also says the employer hasn’t established and maintained a joint health and safety committee in the workplace.
Newpro Declined to comment on the report or the fire.
The fire was in a conveyance system in the plant. No one was injured and no charges have been laid.
Newpro has until June 24 to report back to Work Safe BC detailing a plan to comply with the Workers Compensation Act.
