BC teachers and the province failed to reach an agreement before the end of June despite both sides saying they wanted to negotiate a new contract by a June 30th deadline.
The passed deadline means the teachers miss out on a $1,200 signing bonus.
School District 54 Superintendent Chris van der Mark says he hopes the teachers and the province continue talks throughout the summer.
“Now I guess the hope is that talks and bargaining can continue and they will work towards a resolution in a timely fashion.”
He says the start of the new school year is now two months away so hopefully a contract deal can be met by then.
