Getting groceries after the closing of Super-Valu in Houston will come as a challenge to those without a vehicle.
Super-Valu will be closing on the 25th of June.
Ted Metz of the Houston Senior Citizen’s Association will be meeting later this week to organize food deliveries for seniors without vehicles.
“And it’s also if there’s room – if there are people that are not seniors – people that are low-income families” to benefit from the service, says Metz. “We’re going to have volunteers on both ends to put the grocery orders together and deliver them here. It depends how often – once a week to start – but as more customers come maybe twice a week.”
He’s not sure yet how much the service will cost. Metz says it should be run by volunteers.
Super-Valu decided to close due to underperformance in both Houston and Fraser Lake.
