Consumer Price Index in BC rises 1.7% in May

May’s Consumer Price Index in Bc went up 1.7% according to Stats Canada.

Analyst, Michel Sekimonyo states the province’s gasoline index saw a bigger drop than the previous month.

“The gasoline index in British Columbia had a larger decline than what was observed last month, so in May, it was down 8.6% compared to a decline of 7.2% in April.”

Despite the drop, the price of gas went up. “The price of gasoline was two percentage points higher than in March but in May, the increase was 4.9%. We had an acceleration in British Columbia compared to the rest of Canada we saw a decrease in gasoline prices.”

Fresh vegetables in BC only saw a jump of 1.9% in May which decelerated compared to April which saw am increase of 9.4%

The National Consumer Price Index jumped 1.5% over the past 12 months.
