WorkSafe BC preaching “Cone Zone” safety this summer

WorkSafe BC is reminding drivers and construction workers to exercise caution during construction season in BC.

Manager of Transportation and Road Safety, Mark Ordeman says they’ve seen too many incidents on provincial roads.

“We have seen 15 roadside workers killed in BC over the past 10 years with another 226 injured missing time from work after being hit by a motor vehicle, so it’s a real issue we’re concerned about.”

However, Ordeman is preaching the same safety message for construction workers. “If there’s an opportunity to do the work outside of high-volume traffic that is encouraged . That is one of the elements we look to when developing a plan and what can it do to help minimize the risks of workers in the zone.”

The current fine is $196 dollars for any motorist who does not obey any “Cone Zone” signage.

All crews will be given a toolkit on how to use their workspace more effectively.

Simple things like the positioning of your work vehicle can go a long way.
