ICBC urging road safety between children and drivers this summer

More cyclists will be on the road during the summer months now that the school year is winding down.

Sam Corea with ICBC says drivers should follow a few simple steps if they see any cyclists on the road.

“It is time for drivers to keep an extra eye out for even more children playing outside. Just remember to take extra care on the roads especially near playgrounds and residential areas.”

On average 153 child pedestrians between the ages of 5 and 15 are injured in crashes each year with 7 of those taking place in the North Central region.

Playground speed limits remain in effect year-round.

ICBC encourages children to cycle in a straight line and to avoid weaving.
