A state-of-the-art mammography vehicle has been making its way through the Bulkley Valley.
Equipped with its own live examination room, it gives free examinations for breast cancer. The vehicle is making it’s way to Houston on the 5th, 6th and 7th of July and will return to the Bulkley valley in the fall.
Janette Sam, the director of operations with the screening program, says the mobile will make it easier for women in smaller communities.
“It’s to allow women to not have to make it to the large centres to get a mammography. The nice thing about the new unit is it has state-of-the-art equipment on it. The test only takes about 15 minutes.”
The mammography by vehicle is touring 37 northern communities.
Research shows a 25 per cent reduction in deaths due to the use of a screening program for breast cancer.
