Corrugated cardboard changes take effect Canada Day

Recycling will be changing in the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako by the end of the week with the banning of corrugated cardboard from entering the landfill.

Chair Bill miller says it’s all a part of their waste reduction program.

“It reduces our long-term costs in the landfill and our liability costs…so definitely there’s reductions there,” says Miller. “We’ve put some incentives in there, so with our incentives and MMBC, things are really coming together.”

The District will still be collecting other types of cardboard for the landfill but still encourage recycling.

Last week some recycling contract renewals were signed with several municipalities across the region.
