MP Nathan Cullen has made infrastructure priorities for the Skeena Bulkley-Valley

MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley Nathan Cullen has outlined his priorities for infrastructure in the area.

It starts with roads and bridges with the priorities listing issues around highway 16, health-care, affordable housing and climate change out of 11 different issues named in the release.

Water, communities in transition, internet connection, green spaces, food security and traffic issues are also listed.

Although not specifically in the release, Cullen says the Hazelton Rec Centre project tops the list.

“It is my number one infrastructure priority in the region right now. Hazelton has been waiting a long time for this project to get some support. I’ve been talking to a lot of ministers on this, and it makes sense on a lot of levels,” says Cullen. He says it fits all the funding requirements set out by the Liberals.

Chair of the board for the Rec Centre Peter Newbery says they’re still waiting for the final confirmation.

Railway safety, and rail crossing safety didn’t make the list of priorities.

“There was some comments that came forward. I wouldn’t say it met with the same type of traction with other issues that came up. It may be a very localised thing. Although, northerners have been complaining and arguing about railways for a long time,” says Cullen.

He’ll be taking the list of to Ottawa to get some infrastructure dollars spend in the north-west.
