Northern Real Estate Board supports “Superintendent of Real Estate”

The BC Northern Real Estate Board is voicing its support for Premier Christy Clark’s proposed new Superintendent of Real Estate.

One director, Bob Quinlan, stands firmly behind the decision.

“Oh, absolutely. We encourage it. It’s ridiculous in this day and age when we see all of these different areas in our lives that affect the public, and self-regulation has come to the front and that’s something that industry shouldn’t be able to do,” he says.

A superintendent will be in charge of all Province-wide rules, which will streamline a lot of regulations and be cheaper for realtors. Quinlan says buyers and sellers will see a difference too.

“You’re going to have a lot of continuity, you’re going to have more transparency for the public. Not only have we agreed, as the board, to approve this we also believe that we should be more open and moving away from self-regulation and being more transparent to the public.”

Premier Clark announced an industry overhaul last week, which includes getting rid of dual agency representation and bigger fines for unlicensed sellers.
