Grammy award winning Alex Cuba says his trip to Ottawa for the Parliament on the Hill Canada Day Celebration was beyond his expectations.
With his performance on the main stage, he translated lyrics from some of his songs into the Wet’suwet’in language.
He was inspired to bring the language to the celebration in front of the Prime Minister and thousands of people after he heard the language was in danger of disappearing.
“The fact that I choose to do that was from the bottom of my heart. I was chosen to be part of the Canada Day(on Parliament Hill) and then I chose to do something like that,” says Cuba. “I had a couple of First Nations, Wet’suwit’in people come up to me in tears and say,’thank you so much for doing this, it was so exciting to hear my language up on that stage’, you know.”
Cuba, based in Smithers, was the only musician from BC performing at the largest Canada Day celebration in the country.
