Mobile food vendors in Houston will get a break

The District of Houston will be changing some bylaws to make it easier for food vendors in the downtown areas.

Currently, they’re hit with a hefty 961 dollar fee to apply for an event permit to operate as a mobile vendor.

Councillor Jonathan Van Barneveld says they’re cleaning up some old bylaws.

“All these bylaws were just created and they don’t sync, they don’t work together. So we’re just going through the motions to amend them in the future so it just makes more common sense.”

Barneveld says there’s a lot more fruit and vegetable vendors in the district after the grocery store closed.

Council will be amending the business bylaw to allow mobile vendors to operate without the event permit fees.
