Moricetown Economic Development Expo next month

Developing the local economy, and identifying the challenges for small businesses is the aim behind an expo held in Moricetown next month.

“A lot of people don’t even realize all of the businesses that are up in Moricetown. A lot of them operate out of their house or their truck and don’t advertise or have a (web) page up, or do a lot of marketing. It’s mostly word of mouth,” says Economic Development officer Norma Stumborg. She hopes an expo will open doors and spark some networking connections.

“If these businesses need to do a business plan, want to expand, need a loan – we’ll have people in this expo that will guide them through the steps.”

Moricetown members can attend the free expo Sept 7th to 8th with keynote speakers, Wet’suwet’en dancers, a dinner and a chance to meet the new economic development officer, Stumborg.

“Meet with(businesses)…individually, and find out what are their challenges, what are they running up against.”

Stumborg says they’re also working on a website for people to upload marketing information about their business in a data base.
