The doors are closing on Huckleberry Mine today but many workers are looking toward a new one opening up.
Next year, the Brucejack Gold Project will start operating about 65 km north of Stewart next year. Parent company Pretivm is accepting applications, and spokesperson Troy Shultz says over 100 of the job hopefuls have worked at Huckleberry.
“We definitely consider all the qualified applicants for the positions we have available. We do have a preference for hiring from the North so we definitely consider everyone as a priority.”
Parent company Pretivm expects the mine to produce 7.3 million ounces of gold and 27.6 million ounces of silver over 18 years. It also expects the mine to employ about 500 full-time workers.
