Terry Fox Run Sunday in Smithers, and across Bulkley Valley

Smithers will be holding its own terry fox run again this year on Sunday.

Organizer Sandra McAulay says anyone can come out and run.

“You can run, bike walk, blade – dogs are welcome…there’s no minimum donation,” says McAulay.

Last year they were able to raise around 35 hundred dollars, and this year, of course, hope to beat that.

“I think everyone has someone, or knows someone, that’s unfortunately been touched by cancer in their life. I think they do a lot of good work. And I think all their money goes to research and to help families and people deal with cancer.”

Sandra has called on Mayor Taylor Bachrach to make it out to Sunday’s 5-10 k run. Bachrach says he hopes to be there.

“Yeah, I think my family and I are going to make it out. The organizers do an awesome job…it’s important to raise money for an awesome cause, and I hope to see folks come out,” says Bachrach. “Most importantly, (it’s) to support each other as a community.”

The 10 k run will start at 1 p.m. at the Central Park building in town on Sunday.

There will also be runs in Quick, and Hazelton 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
