Telkwa water capacity didn’t make talks with ministers this week at UBCM

Telkwa Mayor Darcy Repen hasn’t had luck regarding funding talks with provincial ministers at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention in Victoria this week.

The Village is facing water capacity problems that has storage reaching dangerous lows in the summer months.

Repen says he met with ministers last year, and so far hasn’t seen any action.

“You know I think our response to that is simply let us know when you want to meet. If the UNBC is too busy than maybe another time. We expect the opportunity to be able to meet with our provincial ministers,” says Repen.

He’s interested in getting the Village on the Resource Benefits Alliance to secure some regular dollars for infrastructure like a new water tower and a new bridge.

“Telkwa’s open for business, but we can’t accommodate big developments without a new water tower.”
