School District 54 forums held later this month in Smithers and Houston

Parents will get an update on how School District 54 is educating students later this month.

Superintendent Chris Van der Mark says they’ve held forums in the past that have made changes around giving students more choices.

“A lot of things have happened that have provided a lot more choices for students in the Bulkley Valley. and we continue to explore that,” says Van der Mark. He says the forums allow for parents to engage in their child’s education.

“There’s a fair bit of change coming through the system, whether it be the re designed curriculum, or communicated student learning – which would be report cards…so we really want to engage the community.”

The forums will cover education for all students K-12.

They’ll be held Oct. 20th at the School board office in Smithers, and Nov. 3rd at the Houston Secondary School.
