Woman identified in fatal Burns Lake train incident

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died in Burns Lake following an incident with a train on Oct. 8.

44-year-old Margaret Alice West of Burns Lake died at the scene after being struck by a Via Rail passenger train at the rail tracks near the intersection of Highway 16 and Francois Lake Road.

The BC Coroners Service say shortly after noon, West and two companions were crossing the tracks on foot. West wasn’t able to get off the tracks before she was struck by the westbound train.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate.
