Moricetown hitchhiking Facebook group concerns staff

A hitch hiking Facebook group of nearly 300 Moricetown members has raised concerns among staff.

Economic Development Officer Norma Stumborg says they did a band survey on the transportation habits of 44 members showing almost 30 people relied on hitch hiking as their sole source of transportation.

“They’re getting on the road st 4 in the morning…in the dark to be at work for six for an entry level job in Smithers. And Smithers has a lot of entry level jobs they can’t fill,” says Stumborg.

Stumborg encourages those that are hitch hiking or having difficulty travelling to contact the band and tell them their story – she says it will help secure funding for a community vehicle – the deadline is next Thursday.
