Northern Light Wildlife Society takes first grizzly this year

A grizzly bear cub from Bella Coola was relocated to The Northern Lights Wildlife Society earlier this week after a tragic incident.

The cub’s mother was shot during a confrontation with COs on Monday, with her brother dying due to illness.

Angelika Langen says human attractants brought the bears into town there creating a public safety risk.

“This is really putting the public in danger. It’s not just about the bears, it’s about the families that live around you and (some) people just don’t care,” says Langen.

Langen wants to see stiffer fines for those that don’t follow rules around removing bear attractants like apples on trees and bird feed.
