UN goals part of public meeting with non-profit this week in Smithers

A non profit group is looking to have towns like Smithers adhere to the 17 United Nations sustainable development goals

Mike Simpson with the BC Council for International Cooperation will be relaying information and ideas collected from their first tour across the province

“There’s a BC election coming up in May, so we’re going to all the same 29 communities and we’re just saying, it doesn’t matter what your political stripe is; Canada signed onto these goals, and for all these goals to take place” we have to start at the local level, says Simpson.

“We’re asking people to ask their politicians,’what are they going to do to implement theses goals in the BC election?”

Some of the UN goals range from poverty elimination to green house gas reduction

They’ll be in Smithers at the old church this Thursday at 7:30 pm
