Smithers Freemasons raise $1,500 for Harris family’s health costs

The Harris family has received another donation from the Smithers community

Volunteer firefighter Cache Harris’s 4-year-old son Carter is battling a digestive disease while his wife is facing brain surgery later this month.

With the local Freemasons topping up contributions to the family with 25 hundred in fundraising, Cache says the community support has helped them get through.

“it’s amazing. I don’t know what other word to call our community other that just a really close knit, amazing community. My fire fighter sisters and brothers were taking care of my chores while I was gone,” says Harris, who since had to take leave from his job to make trips for Carter’s treatment.

He says the helps has “helped them get through this storm” and that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Earlier this year Fire chief Keith Stecko raised around 16 thousand dollars to help with medical costs through his rainbow Mohawk fundraiser.
